Types of Treatment
Types of cocaine addiction treatment offered at Riverwoods Behavioral Health System near Atlanta, GA
At our facility, we use a number of different types of treatment to address your cocaine addiction and the problems it has caused you. If you are addicted to cocaine, it is likely that you will first enter into our cocaine detoxification program to remove the cocaine from your system before we begin treatment. Drug detoxification includes the following steps:
1) Evaluation – during the evaluation process, we will determine the types of drugs in your system (cocaine is often mixed with other substances) to better tailor your detox to your needs. During the evaluation, we will begin to unearth co-occurring disorders, related medical conditions, in addition to other behavioral or mental health problems.
2) Stabilization – during stabilization, we will guide you through the detoxification process, often using medications to minimize drug withdrawal symptoms so that you can rid your body of cocaine with the least amount of discomfort. We will explain everything that is happening before it happens so there are no surprises.
3) Guidance on treatment – during the last stage of detox the drugs in your system will have been removed but you are not done yet. It is now time to enter into our cocaine addiction treatment facility to continue to focus on your recovery and continued sobriety.
After your successful detox, it’s time to join your treatment team and set goals for your continued treatment. Our medical staff will continue to monitor and care for any underlying medical issues that may have been caused by your addiction. Your plan of care will be developed around the 12-step model for addiction and include a wide variety of treatments.
Common treatment plans include a combination of medications and therapies tailored to your specific needs. Medication and medical monitoring may be used short-term to manage symptoms or long-term to treat any underlying co-occurring mental health issues. After you’ve learned more appropriate ways of coping with stresses while under the close supervision of your treatment team, you may be able to taper down your medications.
In addition to detox and medication management, there are a number of other therapeutic processes we use at our hospital to help treat your cocaine addiction. Some of these therapies include:
Individual therapy is tightly focused around the problems cocaine abuse has caused you while exploring the reasons behind your addiction. Individualized therapy may include mending problems with friends and family, problem-solving to help get you on the path to recovery, and identifying any co-occurring mental illnesses you may have.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is often used to identify problems in the way you think while helping you to challenge the way you think to allow for more constructive thoughts. CBT allows for greater insight and recovery.
Strengths-based therapy focuses on the inherent skills and strengths you already have. By building from these strengths it allows for the development of greater confidence and problem-solving abilities. We don’t focus on the problem, rather, we strive to empower you as the one person who is able to change your life.
While you’re at our cocaine addiction treatment facility, you will likely join one of our many group therapies, which are a mixture of process-based and psycho-educational groups. Process-based groups focus on a common theme, such as addiction, and allow you to connect with others facing addiction. Psycho-educational groups are designed to teach a group of people about a specific topic, such as medications. Other groups will focus on stress management and prevention of relapse.
In addition to standard therapies to address alcoholism, we offer a wide variety of experiential programs. This include:
- Art Therapy
- Music Therapy
- Recreational Programming
- Expressive Therapy
- Nutrition and Wellness Therapy
- N.A. and A.A.
At our facility, we believe you have the key necessary for changing your future. We can hardly wait to see what you do next.
Continuing Care
Continuing care and levels of treatment for cocaine
When it’s been decided you no longer need the level of care and structure of a hospital setting, you will work closely with your treatment team to create an appropriate aftercare plan. If you don’t feel ready to leave a hospital setting, you may find a residential facility to be the right fit.
In the event you still would like more structure in your recovery, you may opt to join an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). The types of programs, as well as the days a week and hours each day you will meet, do differ on the location, but many find this to be an acceptable step-down from a hospital setting.
If you feel you’ve made enough progress during your stay with us that you’re ready to discharge home, we will work with local providers to set you up with a new psychiatrist as well as community resources so you have the right support during your transition home.
