About Our Adult Inpatient Program
Learn more about our adult inpatient program at Riverview Behavioral Health System
The inpatient program at Riverwoods is the acutest level of care offered and is designed to offer a safe secure environment for recovery and development. The typical length of stay on our adult inpatient unit near Atlanta, Georgia is approximately 5-7 days but varies greatly depending on the individual patient’s personal needs. The inpatient unit is not intended for long-term treatment and is only used as a last option in the treatment process to offer crisis stabilization.
Our confidential assessment combined with interviews of the patient, family (if applicable), and any other integral care providers, will assist our professional staff in the collection of history and the progression of the illness. This detailed information will allow the team to formulate a specialized treatment plan that is unique for each patient. While in treatment the patient will participate in either the psychiatric, chemical dependency or dual diagnosis therapeutic track. All inpatient treatment programming will be therapy based with patients attending individual, group, and family therapy sessions daily. All therapy is conducted by licensed counselors, therapists, psychologists, and social workers and overseen by our team of board certified psychiatrists. Every patient will see their psychiatrist for an initial evaluation and determination regarding the need for medication within 24 hours of admission.
Patients will not only learn the therapeutic techniques of staying healthy but also how to monitor and administer their medication from our team of nurses and pharmacists. This two-pronged approach of therapy and medication is a proven method of treatment and will offer the patient the best opportunity for positive results. Upon discharge, social workers will help patients formulate a plan for continued treatment and make referrals to the appropriate mental health professionals in the community where they live.
Inpatient Psychiatric Program
The inpatient psychiatric program specifically treats patients dealing with a primary mental health diagnosis such as depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, or bipolar disorder
Patients will receive education to gain awareness and learn about the behaviors and symptoms associated with their diagnosis. They will learn to identify and overcome the stressors that will often lead to an exacerbation of symptoms and/or the decompensation of their mental stability. Education regarding the importance of self-care, self-esteem, and how to develop a healthy support system will allow patients to find self-worth and value in their treatment process. While in our inpatient treatment program, patients will attend a variety of groups including but not limited to the following:
- Anger Management
- Illness Education
- Process
- Relationship
- Coping Skills
- Successful Living Skills
- Medication Education
- Infection Prevention
- Expressive Therapy
- Relaxation Therapy
- Relapse Prevention
- Spirituality
- Psycho-educational
Inpatient Chemical Dependency Program
The chemical dependency inpatient program is utilized to treat patients that have a primary diagnosis that is substance abuse or dependency related
Often times, patients involved in the treatment program for chemical dependency will require detoxification for physical addiction due to long term exposure and toxicity. Since detoxification from some drugs can be potentially fatal, our medical staff will begin treatment immediately and closely monitor the progression of the patient. If necessary, medication will be administered to make the process as painless and safe as possible. Patients involved in the chemical dependency program will be given the tools to a healthy lifestyle by learning about the disease, coping skills, and relapse prevention. Some of the groups that will be attended throughout the inpatient treatment process for chemical dependency are as follows:
- Coping Skills
- Illness Education
- Infection Prevention
- Process
- Psycho-educational
- Successful Living
- Chemical Dependency
- Expressive Therapy
- Relaxation Therapy
- Relationship Skills
- Spirituality
- Medication Education
- 12 – Step
Dual Diagnosis Inpatient Program
The dual diagnosis inpatient program is a combination track and is for patients with a co-occurring psychiatric and chemical dependency disorder
Patients will equally attend both mental health and addictive disease groups. They will learn how their mental stability affects their sobriety and vice versa.
